Week of December 1

The Thanksgiving Holiday was a busy time at our Florida Home with both sons and their families visiting for most of the week.  TAProots farm contributed maple syrup for the pancakes, juicy pink and red grapefruit for breakfast, tangerines for the grandchildren’s lunch, and a bottle of 2012 Dry Riesling from Ravines Winery.  The lovely warm days and cool nights were perfect for bike riding, visiting the zoo and butterfly museums, playgrounds, picking oranges, and of course swimming in Nonny and PopPop’s pool.  One celebration involved Caroline, Alex’s wife, making her famous apple pie for Thanksgiving dinner.  For this, help was provided by the two four-year-old cousins, Cora and Graham, supervised by Maisie, aged 2 years, who watched intently from the ledge of the counter where she perched for the whole event.  First, Cora stirred up the cinnamon and sugar, while Graham cranked the apple peeler.  Second, huge pile of slices then were mixed with the cinnamon and poured in the pie crust.  Third, the oatmeal, pecan, and brown sugar topping was dropped over the pie.  During all of this, Maisie  got hungry and was consuming four foot long apple peels like spaghetti.  The pie came from the oven a golden brown and so delicious.  What fun for all at a TAProots Thanksgiving.
